This new version of WordPress is a follow-up maintenance release for WordPress 5.5 and we suggest all WordPress website owners do this upgrade.
WordPress 5.5.1 Release (wordpress.org)
This maintenance release features 34 bug fixes, 5 enhancements and 5 bug fixes for the block editor. These bugs affect WordPress version 5.5, so we want you to upgrade.
WordPress 5.5.1 is a short-cycle maintenance release. The next major release will be version 5.6.
The previous version of WordPress was 5.5 on August 12, 2020.
