Our host, Rackspace, will be moving our servers from an older data center to a new one on June 1, 2018 (Friday night). There will be some downtime. It'll be done at night - the window is from 11pm to 7am but we hope to not be down that entire time. To be clear...
This is on Friday, June 1, 2018 at 11:00 pm to Saturday, June 2, 2018 at 7:00 am.
The IP address of your website will remain the same. There are no changes required on your part. This is not a server migration (the server and logins will stay the same) but a datacenter migration - meaning, we keep the same server but it will be physically moved from one place to another. To do that, some downtime is needed (or a lot of extension cords!) 🙂
Friday nights typically don't see much traffic on most websites, so this is a good time to have this work done.
There will be a migration project team working to make sure the server comes up fine. Before then, we'll be doing a test reboot to make sure we're ready for this change - along with other checks. That reboot will be during the night, a few days before the migration. Our team will also be ready and standing by to check our server and websites we host.
We do have backups of websites and data on the server, which are kept off-site in a secure location, so your data is protected.
We're giving you this warning to help you plan your website marketing so that you're not planning events on your website during this time. If you host with us, we suggest you do not plan any event on your website (a sale / large promotion / paid advertising or marketing) for that time as your website will not be reachable for a portion or possibly even all of that time. If your website would absolutely need to be up during this time, please contact us and let us know as we do have another server we can move your website to temporarily.
The data center we're moving to is more modern and will be a better solution for our website hosting.

[UPDATE 05-18-2018:] We've done a reboot as a test to make sure everything comes up fine when rebooted and it was successful. Some kernel patches were also applied successfully. We're all ready for the datacenter migration.
